If you don't like museums, I still suggest you to go to The Polar Museum. It has a lot of information on the poles, expeditions to The North Pole, important people of these expeditions, life of the locales & many different things. This museum will require at least 1.5 hours so make sure that you have that kind of time. If there was only activity to pick in Tromso day time, I'd totally choose The Polar Museum again.

Small museum outlining the polar explorations, with focus on discovery, and some of the Norwegian contributors such as Amundsen and Nansen. The Tromsø 2.5h guided walking tour (can be found through the tourist information or app) includes a 1h guided visit to the museum, so you could consider visiting the museum that way.

I was pretty disappointed by this museum. In fairness, I'm not a big fan of museums, but this one was pretty bad. We decided to come because it didn't cost very much and it seemed like it could be interesting. It started off by us buying our tickets and then the lady telling us that nothing was in English after we bought the tickets. They had a small pamphlet for us to read, but it was disjointed and didn't explain all of the exhibits. The museum was very small. There was a little bit of history that was interesting to learn about, but for the most part, it was pretty boring. None of the exhibits were interactive. It was just a lot of stuffed animals. I don't think this is worth a stop while in Tromso. There are better ways to spend your time while in the city.

Had a nice setup w small gift shop. Booklet for tour was in multiple languages. Gave a thorough history of life in Norway from early settlers thrpough the years and described adventures to North & South poles of Norwegian people.

Extremely interesting museum built into a small 19th century warehouse, detailing some very core components of Norwegian history. This museum focuses on arctic exploration dating back hundreds of years, evolution of hunting in the area, including the weapons and tools utilized over time, and some of the key figures relevant to respective periods. There is a significant emphasis on the animals hunted, including stuffed seals and graphic views of organs; however, as unsettling of views as some of these may be, the museum does so in a way to educate of what once was but has intentionally been left in the past. There is a lot packed into this fairly compact 11-room tour, but should not need more than an hour max. English guides are provided when you purchase your ticket.
